The Agony of Critique
Previous Entry :: Next Entry

It has recently occurred to me, in one of several "duh" moments over the past weekend, that critiquing is an aquired skill. Those of us who spent 4 years learning how to shred any literary work into its component parts and sift through the pieces don't always realize that it's a skill. So...any of you lurkers have suggestions on good books on how to critique speculative fiction? Tons o' books on how to write, damn few on how to edit fiction, and I have yet to see one on how to critique, but I'll admit that I've not done a full-out, query-the-cockroaches kinda search.

That aside, I've finally gotten into the Jeffrey Ford collection of short stories. This is, of course, not the same as saying that I've actually finished anything else, but I digress. :) My stories wanna grow up to be just like his. OK, well, not just like, that'd be plagirism, but they're damn spiffy is what I'm getting at here.

Currently Reading: "Darwin's Children", "The Fantasy Writer's Assistant"

Recommend: "The Fantasy Writer's Assistant"

Stories out: 3
