Directed by: Timur Bekmambetov I have yet to read this novel (though I do own it and plan on getting to it when I can), but the movie was a lot better than I thought it would be. I watched it thinking it would be a fun bit of fluff, but truly enjoyed it. The plot was original, I'm pretty sure there is no other movie that has Lincoln hunting down vampires or uses vampires as the main reason that there was slavery. It was a bit corny in parts, but that's to be expected. Don't look for historical accuracy, though there is more than I thought, this needs to be looked at as a fun, but surprisingly decent, vampire flick. The acting was solid, the directing was better than I thought it would be for a name that I had never heard of, and all in all this makes a nice little movie. It's probably a good thing I can't compare it to the novel, movies always disappoint me in that regard and I've learned that sometimes it's more fun to watch the movie and then read the novel. It's easier to take them as two separate entities and to enjoy the movie without nitpicking it apart. I would indeed recommend this film. My rating: Four out of five snails.
