Pride And Prejudice And Zombies
Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith

So begins Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all new scenes of bone crunching zombie mayhem. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton - and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers - and even more violent sparring on the blood soaked battlefield. Can Elizabeth vanquish the spawn of Satan? And overcome the social prejudices of the class conscious landed gentry? Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride And Prejudice And Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you'd actually want to read.

Whoever came up with the idea of taking the classic novel Pride And Prejudice and giving it a zombie twist was an absolute genius. A lot of younger people today will only read the Jane Austen novel if it's something they have to do for a class, and even then a lot of times the Cliff Notes version seems to suffice. Adding the zombie menace to this work is a fantastic way to get the younger generation to read a classic novel and not get bored with it.

It still holds up to the storyline of the original, only with the addition of zombies. And what can be better than classic literature with zombies added to it? It's a fantastic idea that makes for one heck of a read. While I personally didn't find the original to be boring, I do have to say that this version is more exciting and even a bit more readable.

Want to read a classic but not be bored with it? This book is for you? Enjoy the classic but wondering how it fares with a zombie plague? Also for you. I would recommend this to pretty much anyone. It was fantastic and had a dark comedic streak running through the entire thing.

My rating: Four and a half out of five snails.
