Chronicle
Directed by Josh Trank

Soon after three teens stumble upon an unidentified substance in the Pacific Northwest woods, they begin to exhibit powers beyond their wildest dreams. But harnessing their new-found abilities proves far more challenging than they ever imagined.

This movie ended up being a lot better than I thought it would be. While it starts out slowly, the pace enables the film to explore most of the main characters and their lives. It also sets up the main character, his life, and why, in the end, he's going to end up as a super villain.

The fun these kids have with their powers is fairly realistic as to how teenagers would act if they suddenly had super powers, but once the fun wears of things turn deadly.

The ending is the ultimate in a super hero/super villain battle and makes the movie well worth watching.

While I'd highly recommend this for any super hero movie fan, people who aren't into super heroes will be able to enjoy this as well. It's a great popcorn flick with plenty of action and watching the moral dilemmas and the fall of one of the characters into villain-hood is absolutely fascinating.

My rating: Four out of five snails.
