Louisa May Alcott & Porter Grand Here are tomboy Jo, meek Beth, ladylike Amy, and good-hearted Meg, plus loveable neighbor Laurie Laurence, now doomed to prowl the night on all fours, maiming and devouring the locals. As the Civil War rages, the girls learn the value of being kind, the merits of patience and grace, and the benefits of knowing a werewolf who can disembowel your teacher. By turns heartwarming and bloodcurdling, this rejuvenated classic will be cherished and beloved by those who enjoy a lesson in virtue as much as they relish a good old fashioned dismemberment. Going into this book, and knowing it was not a Quirk Classic, I had low hopes. I thought it would be a poor rip off of the mash up style that Quirk Classics had invented and perfected. I was wrong. Not only is this an excellent read, but it also mashes up just as well as the Quirk novels do. Yes, it's a bit off-putting that someone decided to copy the mash up, however, it was bound to happen sooner or later and the market seems to be flooded with various mash ups. Werewolves, both the hunting of them and who they really are in the daily lives, are seamlessly interwoven into the class novel Little Women - and it works. You really can't tell what parts are written by the original author and what parts are written by the new author. This seamlessness is the number one thing I look for in one of these mash up books. The story is engaging, and perhaps will have those who would not normally read Little Women reading this. It works very well and is just as good as the others I have read. I highly recommend this, both for those who have read Little Women and those who have not. Though personally I always think it's best to read the original first. My rating: Five out of five snails.
