Community Academy
Previous Entry :: Next Entry

Yesterday was my first day of a 13-week course called the "Community Academy" offered by the Burbank Police Department. I decided to take this class to get more real info on law enforcement to help my writing, and so that I can do a ride-along here in Burbank. I've done a ride-along with friends up near Fresno, and want to compare.

It's a well-structured course that they run twice a year since 1999. So I'm in class #12. Yesterday was mostly an intro to the Burbank PD (which really does sound like a cool place to work), the community academy program, and a tour of the station, including the jail cells. You can check out the class topics through that link, but we'll cover all sorts of info about police work, including a visit to the helipad (and info on the air-support aspect) and the shooting range (with additional info on firearms & training there.

From the topics, it looks like I'll learn some great information to help me with future scripts. I already met someone who reminds me of our main character in our Main Street pilot, which already gave me a nigglin of an idea. :-)
