How goes the list?
Previous Entry :: Next Entry

Here's an update on how I'm doing on my to-do list! And yes, we're back to the upbeat entries. :-)

  • holiday parties this Saturday (one of which is thrown by my managers, and has many industry people coming, the other by my boxing instructor, with again many industry people there);

    Went to the party, had a good time, met a development exec from Lisa Kudro's company, chatted with my managers, brought a friend who works at another company, who ended up reading SPACETIME and is forwarding it to friends of hers in various production companies. Hoping it went to WB TV, trying to get it to SciFi and USA.

  • testing the waters on a project I'm tentatively calling "Ice Cream Sundays" where I invite a showrunner, network exec, or other industry person to come have ice cream (or hot chocolate or whatever) with a small group of friends and we can talk about industry/career-related stuff. I'm not sure if I can get anyone to come, but I've been assured by someone who should know that I can, and it's a good way to meet people with whom we hope to find gainful employment;

    I have writers interested, but I need to get the guest.

  • calling John to get a meeting with a potential new manager;

    Met with John about a TV project he's shopping. Will read the pilot script and offer thoughts on it. Sent spec TV script to John to read as a writing sample. Since the pilot is not what they want to shoot, I'm hoping that I can at least get a considerations to rewrite the script.

  • nailing Sheree down on her feelings about Spacetime, then calling around for Spacetime reads;

    Sheree to read over holidays. Need to follow up in 2006.

  • contest entry;

    Deadline in January 2006. Printed application. Not in a hurry.

  • finishing the Cold Case;

    Rewrite of first draft done! Need to polish up the final montage sequence and add music cues, then it goes to our readers.

  • making a wish-list of agents with Jennise, then calling them to try to get representation;

    Wish-list made, and organized by contactability, and ability to rep us effectively. Six companies came out on top. Jennise called 3, may have 1 read. I called 3, I have 2 reads, and one closed until the new year. More follow-up required.

  • possibly attending a UCLA short film festival the night a director friend exhibits his short for networking.

    Decided it was better to use my time working on script, and ended up crashing because I was exhausted from lack of sleep the previous night.

Not on my list, but also accomplished:

  • Decided to try to attach Nathan Fillion to Spacetime. Put out a call for assistance, and connected with someone from the Zicree table who knows his manager, as well as a good contact at SciFi. Gave her the script last night. She will read, and if she likes it will forward to both. She knows a lot of sci-fi actors, and might also have a recommendation for the female lead.
  • Sent an e-mail to the NBC exec we met last year, to see if she could recommend a contact name at SciFi.
  • Got in touch with a boxing buddy, and now will get Spacetime read at Silver Pictures in January. Hey, they did Dungeons & Dragons. Maybe Spacetime will be a slam-dunk for them.

So, to refresh my to-do list:

  • Follow-up with agents not called and agents who read us;
  • FINISH Cold Case and send to Managers;
  • Start another TV spec for staffing season;
  • Get a guest for the first Ice Cream Sunday;
  • Enter Spacetime in the Scriptapalooza contest;
  • Make sure managers send Spacetime to Silver Pictures;
  • Call more agents;
  • Follow up with agents called;
  • Call more agents;
  • Call Tom Cohen at Lightstorm to read Spacetime;
  • Call more companies to get Spacetime read, including SciFi, USA, TNT, Spike and movie companies as well;
  • Get notes back to John on the pilot script.

Hm. My new list is only passing similar to my old list, but it's longer. Work begets work?

With the holidays in full swing now, it's pretty much wait until January for most of my items. Updates to follow as I have them.
