Making calls. Talking to people. Very determined. It's been boring stuff, so I haven't bothered mentioning it. But, to sum up...

TV Shows:

Battlestar Galactica, Cold Case, Without a Trace, Invasion -- all waiting to hear about series pickups, so their response was to call back in a couple of weeks (early March) once they've heard. Frustrating to finally get rarin' to go, and essentially be put on hold, but it's not a no, at least.

Dead Zone -- not reading, may not get a pickup, and they already have their full complement of scripts for the current season in the can (written), so no freelancing opportunities.

However, their production company (Piller Squared) has taken Main Street as a pilot (they're looking for projects) as well as Spacetime and Mindgames. Piller2 is behind the Star Trek franchise, as well as Shark Tale, Speed and Saving Private Ryan. One of my friends works there now, so it was an easy call for me to make. She's read Fork-Tailed Devil a while back, so didn't hesitate to ask for them.

Jennise and I have now set up a new arrangement. She's worse at cold calling than I am -- if I get cold, she goes catatonic. So, I've put her in charge of keeping track of shows and their renewals, and with assigning me a daily quota of places to call. This way, I don't look at my list and rationalize why I want to call one place over another. And I don't have to keep tabs on the show news which she likes to do.

My contact at Lightstorm left the company. Drat! Need to find a new contact at Lightstorm and also see what my old one's up to.

So, to that end I'm subscribing to IMDBPro, which has a database of production companies, execs and phone numbers for calling on my features. It's only $12.95 per month -- the cheapest service for that resource.

They have a very interesting problem in that you can't just register straight away for the service; they expect you to go through their 14-day trial, then stick around for the monthly fee. I've already done the trial with my credit card number, so when registering it dings me saying that card's already been used. I can't just say "I want to pay you, sign me up" and they're not quite prepared for someone with only one credit card (their suggestion is to use a different number). I'm working that out with customer service.

Spacetime the pilot getting closer to completion. I'm not happy with my story ideas that I've brainstormed, but I am getting closer on a complete episode 1.

Our Supernatural spec has started to take shape. Basic problem of the week decided on, and now we're figuring out the plot. This should be a fun spec to work on.

That sums it up. I'm not going to worry about the mundane day-to-day "I called here" posts. But I am actively trying to make something happen.

Oh, and think good thoughts for my scripts and Piller2, eh?
