Marriage is love.

Why am I here?

Let me start by telling you right now...at the very outset...I always use too many ellipses. Love me, love my inability to complete a thought in a normal expository paragraph with simple declarative sentences.

What am I doing here? Well for one thing, getting the writing monkey off my back. I do not consider myself a particularly good writer, though I enjoy writing hymns, long emails, unsent letters to the editor, and distinctly awful short stories or script treatments that I then consign to the eternal electronic ether of an emptied recycle bin. (Don't talk to me about file-retrieval mumbo jumbo, I saw that CSI, I know--unless you are the FBI, let me live with my delusion that once it's deleted, it's really gone.) [Oh, yes, and another thing. I overuse parentheses and brackets.] At best, I hope to be an occasional essayist or memoirist.

So perhaps a bit about me is in order...These are words/phrases/categories that once described me:
litigator; Texan; Republican; closeted; Southern Baptist; movie critic; virgin; precocious; Best-Little-Boy-in-the-World wanna-be; and, at least according to most modern standards, wealthy.

These are words/etc that apply to me today:
Protestant Pastor; Chicagoan; disgusted Democrat (in Chicago, don't they shoot, spay, and/or neuter independents?); liberal (in the best and worst senses of that word); chubby; dating; 40-something; information junkie; voracious reader; so out I sing in the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus; middle child of four (I can explain); periodic Google addict; usually broke; Netflix customer; and, current dating situation notwithstanding, frequently disappointed online personals customer.

I reserve the right to pontificate on any of the above...or whatever strikes my fancy. I get to write and deliver sermons weekly...but don't expect the kind of even-handed pastorly tone I might take in those to be present here. Sometimes I get really pissed off.

Let the games begin...but right now, I'm hungry...so, I'm outa here. Have a great one! Thanks for stopping by.
