Marriage is love.

In the Crosshairs...

Tomorrow afternoon, I'm the overture advocate for a proposed change in our church constitution that is coming up for a vote in our local church governmental body...it deals with ordination standards and how they affect LGBT folks.

I've already been warned that there will be procedural efforts to stop us...I think I'm prepared for those.

I've got two minutes...two minutes...along with my co-advocate who also has two minutes...what to say...

What words will be the tools of the Spirit to crack open minds to seeing the idolatry of a system that says leaders must be, or indeed, can be "more moral" than just plain members....of the hypocracy of "you are welcome here...just not in leadership."

How does one speak of the pain of rejection...of the reluctant disdain that many in the LGBT community now have for a church that tells them they must choose God or loving someone...but not both...in just two minutes?

How can I effectively communicate to them the barrier placed between the gospel of Jesus Christ and those who cannot hear it when it comes from lips that ask them to deny who they are, to say that for LGBT people, and only LGBT people, God's call and a lifetime commitment to a soulmate are mutually exclusive?

I don't know. Maybe I just ask the questions and let the Spirit move as she will....
