Marriage is love.

Easter Baked Goods in my corner of the world

I live in, according to Percept, one of the most Catholic/European neighborhoods in the US. We have three FABULOUS local bakeries. Many of my RC friends give up sweets for Lent.

Here is what is on offer from the Trinity of Bakeries this week:

1. 5 by 5 by 12 Buttercream decorated Buttermilk Pound Cake Lambs (size is not counting the head)(frosting colors: white, rainbow, pale pink, pale yellow, sky blue, mint green, lavender, apricot, chocolate buttercream, coconut, or chocolate-dipped).

2. Pastel Colored Six-Braid Hoska loaves (think Challah with raisins) (braids are pink, orange, yellow, green, blue and lavender).

3. Buttermilk Poundcake Eggs, in three sizes. Covered in all the options available for the Lamb cakes, plus powdered sugar.

4. Jelly Bean Cupcake Nests. (the top is cut off and stuck back on (with frosting) up-side down to make a frosted bowl to hold more jelly-beans. Decorative handles are glued to the wrapper. (I asked.)

5. Holy White or Holy Rye (think very large hot crossed buns with no frosting at all).

6. Hoska Easter Egg rings...Braided sweet bread with colored whole-in-the-shell eggs baked into the ring of bread.

7. Frosted Chicks. In chocolate or vanilla. I didn't even want to ask.

There is also an Easter Special Meat Lover's Pizza at a local place...enough dead animal to choke an Aorta. And all the restaurants have "close out" specials on their Pepper and Egg Sandwiches.

I like the idea of the extravagant love of Easter being celebrated, and the end of Lent being marked, but....hmmmmm......

(And I ordered the Lamb cake as a joke for Chorus rehearsal....honestly.....I swear.)
