Marriage is love.

A 44th Birthday Update

1. Having a broken foot on your birthday, not so much fun.

2. Having your beloved church organist suffer a fatal heart attack two nights before your cast-laden birthday...deeply sad and perspective producing.

3. Realizing that during your 43rd year, ten percent of your congregation died, see #2.

4. Being taken for a birthday dinner (your only invitation) by a sweet older couple from the church who have their own fairly serious mobility issues...humbling and joyful.

5. Preaching and leading communion while standing on your non walking temporary cast for far too long a time...stupid and magic la-la-land pill inducing.

6. Realizing that you are starting your 45th year of life with many dear friends and colleagues and a loving family, but still alone personal relationship-wise...to be honest, a mixed bag....that obviously leans toward the grateful.

7. Waiting for the emergency room bill for said broken foot, terror inducing, though with deep gratitude for medical insurance.
