Full of the joy of spring (or something)

This morning is full of much-needed positivity. The sky is blue (with intermittent rain clouds), the air is fresh, and we actually got up in time to do writing before work today. We did it at home instead of at a cafe to save money and it worked surprisingly well. If it keeps working well, we might think about doing that a bit more regularly.

Last night I was feeling a bit as though the idea leech had stuck itself to the back of my neck. I hadn't come up with a good idea for ages. So we had an idea brainstorm session and came up with nine new story ideas between us. We used the format of "What if...?" for the ideas, for a bit of variety, and it worked wonderfully. I think I can probably write stories for about half of the ideas. We've made all the ideas open to both of us to use as we wish, so I'll see which Steph decides to do.

I started a new story based on one of the ideas this morning. Although I'm only a couple of pages in to it, I'll risk jinxing myself by saying that it's looking like one of the better stories I've written recently so far (I've been fairly dissatisfied with the last two stories--they've been okay, just nothing special). Enough jinxing!

Our friend and fellow Clarion West 2001 grad, Linda DeMeulemeester, made her first pro sale yesterday. By my reckoning, at least 11 of the 17 in our class have made pro sales now. Most of the others have been working exclusively or predominantly on novels. That's a pretty impressive total. I don't know what the statistics are for an average Clarion/Clarion West class, but I'd be surprised if they were that high. Go us!
