2005-12-29 10:00 PM Doctor's Appointment Mood: Worried Read/Post Comments (4) |
I scheduled a doctor's appointment for myself yesterday for today. I have been having some health problems that are a bit too personal to post publicly. So, it was high time to schedule an appointment.
Today, I left work early to head to my appointment with Berek. Thank goodness he was able to get off early because I don't like going to the doctor's office alone. At the doctor's office, they forgot that I was there and so I didn't actually get in to see the doctor until nearly an hour after I got there. Oh well, I didn't have to go back to work thanks to Natalie. :) Then, I had to wait almost naked (wearing a gown) in a freezing cold room. (Again, at least Berek was there with me.) Finally, the doctor came in. She's really a nice woman. She's very caring and she explains everything wonderfully. I also noted that she is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practices which means she'll be a great doctor to have when we are planning on starting a family. (A long time down the road!!!!!!) In any case, they had to draw some blood, and run another test. In the process of my exam, the doctor explained that I could possibly diabetic. My symptoms were along the lines of possibly being diabetic. She recommended that I cut back on my sugars and carbohydrates and also start an exercise regimen. Berek also chimed in and explained that we were beginning just such a regimen (minus exercise 'cause we haven't got that far yet) because he is diabetic and I am hypoglycemic. So the doctor congratulated us and said to keep it up. *sigh* While being diabetic isn't a death sentence, it certainly makes things difficult. I'm just hoping that I'm on the borderline and that it's possible to turn things around before I am in total pancreatic insulin failure! I've got my fingers crossed. On a side note, I am pleased to say that Berek has scheduled an appointment with his doctor for later next month. I know it will be difficult because he will be having a complete physical and we both know he's diabetic and he does have health problems, but now, those problems will be brought out in front so that we may deal with them head on.
