My heart must weep when my love is sad
Though candles line the windows
His eyes are dark and full of clouds.

My heart must break when my love is sad
For he turns from all he knows of Life
And dwells in shadowed places.

My heart must cry when my love is sad
In desperate prayer of being heard
By one small corner of his aching soul.

My heart must love when my love is sad
To build a fire and keep it warm
A beacon piercing murky fears.

My heart must hope when my love is sad
That passing turmoil will lift its shroud
His eyes will clear and meet my own.

My heart must love
                            my love.
