There was a toad on our front walk last night. This may not seem a big deal, but Shawn and I have never seen a toad up here in our arid, pine-clad mountains. Being the type of people we are, we both had fleeting, hastily dismissed thoughts of fairy tale witches and wondering who we'd managed to piss off or who was watching us.

I wanted to pick it up, but Shawn wouldn't let me. He's probably right; the poor little thing would have probably been terrified. Anyway, seeing it made me happy. I love frogs and toads and such.

When we get into the house, Shawn looks at me and says, "You're going to put this in your journal, aren't you?"
