Hi!

Yeah, I've been gone a while. I'd thought of posting about what a great weekend we had over 4th of July and the friends that came up and how awesome the fireworks over the lake were and how glad I was my parents could come up for it and how much I enjoyed catching up with Roselle (nearly two years since we'd had the opportunity to just sit and talk... and talk... and talk....)

But it's been almost a week, and I'm going to be lazy and just post a link to the recipe for the curried potato salad I made (that's for you, Dad.)

We went to see Pirates of the Carribean today. (NOTE: I've tried to limit all potential spoilers to vague technical and stylistic comments.)

Now that was a fun movie. I enjoyed it immensely: the choreography was innovative but (by today's standards) believable, set design was gorgeous, and Johnny Depp hysterical. I wasn't expecting just how funny it would be. I especially liked the "creative use of rowboat" homage to Burt Lancaster's 1952 The Crimson Pirate.

(Trivia: Nick Cravat, who played Ojo in TCP and was Lancaster's real-life acrobatic partner, also played the creature that William Shatner saw on the wing in that old Twilight Zone episode.)

Afterwards, we went to see The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Shawn liked it. I would have liked it better if the fight scenes hadn't been shot in Jitter-Cam. Still, it was lovely (the Nautilus was very cool!) and I enjoyed it as an introduction to a possible series.

Picture of the Day
I don't know if it's worth a full thousand words, but here's me playing Anne Bonney at a live game based on Tim Powers' On Stranger Tides a couple of years ago.
