Today I found out that, in the chaos of the past couple of months, I forgot to pay the dependent coverage premium of our medical insurance.

That's right: as of April 29th, I was no longer covered.

So far, the hospital bills (not including the two surgeons or the anesthesiologist) are about $45,000.

They have payment plans, and the hospital is sending me an application for waiver due to indigency (meaning that, if I qualify, they may write off a good portion of it), and I'm applying for Medi-Cal (which -- again, if I qualify -- includes up to three months of retro payments.) We're not in danger of losing the house.

But it still really, really bites.

God never gives me anything I can't handle. Sometimes, however, I wish he didn't have so much faith in me.
