This afternoon, Hunter and I went out to get the mail. Even though we have street delivery (unlike the majority of the valley who all need to use post office boxes), we still need to walk around the corner and down the street to the bank of mailboxes.

I bundled Hunter in a warm, fleece outfit and the set of thick socks, gloves and matching hat that my mom knitted for him. I put on my thick jacket and snowboots (necessary, since I hadn't been able to shovel a path all the way out our driveway yet), wrapped Hunter in a blanket and headed out.

It was beautiful. The snow-laden trees were drooping under the weight of white. Hunter was fascinated, snuggling into my arms, yet trying to see everything around us.

And then it began to snow.

Hunter's eyes widened. He looked over my shoulder at the softly falling flakes, then to each side. More and more fell, and he tilted his head to look straight up, a stray mote catching on his lashes.

Then he looked at me, face glowing with a beatific smile of pure delight. My heart melted and flew, singing his soul.

I am so blessed.
