I am delighted and amazed at the record-breaking percentage of citizens who voted, with some reporting that it was at its highest levels in a century.

I am delighted that over half of the voting population of the United States of America has chosen a message of hope and empowerment.

I think that the incredibly savvy nature of Obama's campaign, although not without its flaws, bodes well for his Presidency.

McCain's gracious and supportive concession speech was a solid reminder of the McCain I would have voted for. I wonder if Obama will appoint him to an advisory position? I'm still concerned about McCain's tendency to leap before looking, so I'm not sure if he'd be appropriate for a Cabinet head, but his is a worthy voice that should be included in any public debate that affects national interests.

I wonder if Obama will appoint Hillary to a Cabinet position?

Proposition 8 looks like it will pass with about a 4% margin. To put this into perspective, 8 years ago, Proposition 22 (not a constitutional amendment, but still banning same-gendered marriages) passed with a 20% margin. Considering that Prop 8 was fueled by millions and millions of dollars of out-of-state donations, primarily from the Mormon church, which funded a vicious campaign of fear-mongering, misrepresentation, and occasionally outright lies, the fact that it only passed by 4% speaks highly for the future of equality of human rights. When the amendment is overturned -- and it will be -- I don't think they'll be able to pull it off again, especially if, with its new Democratic majority, the state of New York makes same-gendered marriage legal in the meantime.

Still, I sorrow for the pain that this setback is causing those of my friends who have just been told that they are not real human beings and are unworthy of love.

The local paper hasn't updated its website yet, so I don't know if they printed my letter. It's possible they might not simply because they printed something I posted to their website a couple of months ago, and they may not want the same names showing up too frequently.

Now let's get to work.
