Yesterday was, well... okay. Wasn't one of my best days ever. It all started off good enough - slept till about 9:30 or so while Jen went off to Bar Review classes at school, got up, showered, cleaned up the house a bit, then took a walk. Haven't been able to do that much lately, and it's always been something that helps me collect my thoughts and just de-stress a bit, so it felt good. I think I probably got a mile or two in before I headed back home.

After I spoke to Jen for a bit on AIM (she was on from class) I went back to the apartment, watched a bit of the remake of Ocean's Eleven on cable, then made the biggest mistake of my otherwise good day.

I got the mail.

In it was a letter from the Capital One credit card company, letting me know that despite the fact that the address I provided on my recent credit card application didn't match the address the credit companies have on record, they were going to continue to process my application. Fine. Cool. I had messed up my credit years ago by defaulting on a student loan, and spent years trying to rectify that (which led to the completion of paying off all my loans just a few months ago). So, the notice that they were still considering me for a credit card instead of just outright rejecting me was a good thing.

Oh, hang on. I never applied for a credit card.

Crap.

I called Capital One to let them know this. On the minus side, the card had been approved (even despite the fact that the address and my date of birth on the application were wrong), but on the plus side, it was only that morning and the card was stopped before it was sent out.

So now someone out there has my personal info, and is applying for credit cards with it. All three credit agencies now have a "fraud alert" on my record, and I'm waiting for the most recent copy of my credit report to see if any other companies had been applied to. Also went to the police station last night with Jen to file a report about "identity theft", so they can work with Capital One to see if they can't find whoever's doing this.

After that little fiasco, Jen and I headed up to Universal to catch a movie. Ended up finally seeing Identity in the theatre. VERY good movie. I've come to the realization that, as I said before, it's hard to go wrong with a John Cusack movie. All these other actors get the big bucks and bright lights all the time, but half of the movies they make are less-than-watchable, while I can't recall a Cusack movie I didn't like.

That's it for now.
