And now, another chapter in the continuing saga of Robert's struggle with someone getting a credit card in his name.

Turns out, the address on the application for it (the one that wasn't the same as mine) is the address I used to live at in Cardinal Gardens down at USC... half a decade ago. One of the credit agencies, TransUnion, apparently hasn't bothered to update my information in that long, so my primary address with them is still showing as that one. And, because of that, a credit card application with my name on it was sent there, and someone decided to take them up on the generous offer.

Unfortunately, it wasn't me.

The LAPD is following up on it, as is Capital One's fraud department. Thankfully, the shmuck didn't apply anywhere else, as my credit report shows only one "request for information" on it.

I know my identity information has been swiped. I know where the source of the problem is. I know that they tried to get a card with my name.

Now normally, this would call for some old-fashioned, free-swingin' pickaxe justice, but noooo... my wife is all resepctable and attorney-to-be-like, and has calmly advised me that performing such an action would be against my better interests. So, we'll just have to wait and see how this plays out.

On the work side of things, it's more of the same here. Spent a good part of the morning in a meeting in Information Services, working through a script on how to update all 1,500 employees' benefits at the end of the year. There were no errors in the test system, which means that when we run it for real, we'll probably black out half the city and cause large fires with colors no man or woman has ever seen before.

Which, I suppose, could be kinda fun.
