My office is on fire!

Happy new year!

Okay, it's a little late, but I suck at posting to this thing. Still, I figured I'd jot this one down.

I came into work this morning, grabbed a cup of tea (our coffee machine is on the fritz, and I've got a cold, so tea works nicely), and headed for my office. Like most days, I flipped the light switch because, well, it turns on the lights.

Today, though, my lights would not be content with just turning on. Oh, no! Today, apparently in a particularly jaunty mood, they also felt the urge to pop, smoke, spark, and start burning, complete with a small rain of sparks and flame just to the right of me.

Now, had the coffee machine been working, I would have been up and running the second it started smouldering. But in my half-asleep and caffeine-deprived state, it took me a few moments to process what was happening. If you've read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, it was kind of similar to the beginning, where Arthur looks out his window, sees the bulldozer about to knock down his house, and can only process the thought, "Yellow." Me, I had to settle for "Fire."

I mean, yeah, as soon as it really settled in I got my act together, and was running out of my office to turn the lights off (just a few seconds - I wan't just sitting there, slack-jawed, staring at my burning ceiling for minutes on end). Maintenance came in and looked at it, and apparently it just got old and lit up. Not too reassuring, although I can now safely take "set my office on fire" off my to-do list.

God damn it, I need coffee just in case something else decides to spontaneously combust.
