I got a call from my dad yesterday morning, letting me know that my grandmother passed away. She was 86 years old.

I'm going to be flying into New York tomorrow for the funeral, and coming back on Tuesday night. It's a complete shock right now - compared to my other grandparents, she was relatively healthy and active (at least, as far as I knew), and had even been planning on going to Atlantic City with her friends this weekend, as she's been known to do every few weeks.

And my biggest regret, which I know is going to stay with me for quite some time, is that in the middle of February the whole family (me, Jen and Gabriel) were going to be flying into NYC, and we were going to introduce her to her great-grandson for the first time. She never had a chance to meet him, and that is weighing very, very heavily on me right now.

On a complete weirdness note, I tried logging on to the internet from Jen's mom's house last night to check my email. She's in western Illinois, so her home page automatically pulls up the local weather when it loads, as well as the local news. For some reason - neither I nor Jen's mom changed anything - when the home page loaded up it pulled up the information for New York City... where I'm flying for the funeral tomorrow. Hitting reload on the page brought up the correct information, for Illinois, and the New York info never came up again.

Maybe Grandma waved.
