Good karma week

This has been a good karma week - first one friend passed her law degree after an accelerated course of less than a year (!) and then SarahP got an agent! Woot! Patrick and I also got a fabulous review at Tangent - possibly the nicest review either of us has ever gotten - for our story "Fire Magic". Lots of good things coming to pass this week. (Including my paycheck, which is due tomorrow...I'm counting down the minutes until I can justifiably order Ellen Kushner's new book, The Privilege of the Sword, once there's money in the bank balance again! She's one of my very favorite writers and I've been dying to read this ever since I heard her read an excerpt at WorldCon last year.)

Going to Bristol over the weekend was lovely. The heat had calmed down an ever-so-little bit, and in the shaded areas of the garden, it actually felt good to sit outside, for the first time in a few weeks. We ate gorgeous home-made scones (let me know if anyone wants the recipe - they are delicious) and I read an advance copy of Caroline Stevermer and Patricia Wrede's The Mislaid Magician: or, Ten Years After, which was absolutely wonderful--hilarious, smart and sweet. Just heaven. And best of all, I finally, finally finished the second draft of Congress of Shadows! Woot! I worked on it for about 4 hours on Friday, 4 hours on Saturday and 2-1/2 hours on Sunday and finally got it done. Of course, now I have to fill in all the bracketed historical details that I wasn't quite sure of...but once I've spent a long afternoon in the library (tomorrow, I hope), I'll be able to fill in those last details and be ready to send it out to critiquers.

Huge, huge sigh of relief.

Here's hoping for lots more good free-floating karma for everybody.
