Punny Names", (a
"Homonomicon")?
(While I still have the old files and hardcopies, it is NOT currently in a form where I could share it on the web.) My nephew, (Thanks, JH!), recently sent this link: >Article about real British people with punny names: > http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7909561.stm I like "Sue Mee, a lawyer, and Rob Mee, a banker" a lot! I believe names are a personal choice, and if you want to be called, say, Bob Loblaw, then it is your right! (You can go to a court of law and change your name legally, or simply do all business under your legal name and be generally known and have friends call you by a different name altogether!) I like my name, Dobe Fugin Doinat because it makes me laugh, even after 20 years! (I admit, I was known, by some, for a few years, as Frank Dharma in the 1980s, and as an old family joke, I was known as a baby for a short time as Affidavit.) My brother was known at various times, as X Zachery Wright and Buck D. System. (Alice Stillwell, brother!) Another friend took the name of Oliver dePlace, and his wife was known as Iona dePlace. I make new ones up; they just come to me! Recently, I thought of "Art Penn" and "Marty Pance". Historically, of course, some of these names have been famous! I call these gentlemen the GrandFathers Of Punny Names. A short list must include:
