Stuff

My weekend was a bit more eventful than originally intended, and I arrived to work this morning pleasantly contented at the thought of all the things that I didn’t accomplish and all the festivities that I took part in.

Friday, to my dismay, was floodless. I headed to the restaurant with a sizable chip on my shoulder, which was actually lessened when I discovered that I would not be serving that night and would instead be an SA (which should really be changed to SB, Server’s Bitch). So, while I had to bust my bum bussing tables and the like, I didn’t have to deal with customers, which always gives me the warm fuzzies. I also get out a bit earlier when I’m the SB, so I went for a drive with my girlies afterwards and indulged in some giggle time. It was great.

Saturday I was in the midst of deciding whether or not I should quit the rest. or drag my lazy ass in, when I got a text message from a coworker telling me that if it helped me decide, I would the Server’s Bitch again if I decided to show up. I showed up. We were slammed, which is unusual as this has been a pretty slow time for us, and I ended up cleaning house. I made it out of there before midnight, which is something of a miracle, and raced to the west side to meet Jess & Jess at Charlie’s for a few drinks. Afterwards I headed to the Winchester to meet John and Mark and listen to some tunes.

I am more and more impressed with that bar every time I go there. The owner does a hell of a job booking some cool bands, and it draws in a very interesting crowd. That night they had a band with one of the guys from Ekoostik Hookah, so there were dreads a-plenty and lots of very friendly people. I checked the website this morning (thewinchester.net, if anyone is interested) and am more impressed by the minute. It looks like he has a songwriter’s circle once a month with Anne E. DeChant, which sounds like something I have to check out. I’m also wishing I could wriggle out of darts tonight to see Allan Holdsworth, but I don’t think it’s very likely as we’re playing way out in BFE and the alternates aren’t going to want to drive that far.

Anyway, I spent the next few hours hanging there with my pals and the bar owner, who is a very interesting fellow, and was amused at the fact that I stated that I needed to start talking less and drinking more. We talked about my favorite things (music, books, and movies), and finally decided to stop drinking at about five in the morning to go get breakfast. The hilarity continued over breakfast, and I got home at about six am and played some Buffy before calling it quits.

I was actually awake before noon, which is really something if you think about it, and played some more Buff before pulling myself together to catch a movie with John and Randy. We saw Sideways and, damn, what a funny movie. It’s been a time since I saw something that smart. I left the film wanting to scream about merlot and thinking that the phrase “tighter than a nun’s ass” is probably seared in my mind for a lifetime. Sheesh. Though my advice to all who see it is, if you can’t sneak a bottle of pinot in the theater with you, you’d better make sure you have time to drink one afterwards. John and I felt the call of the grape and headed to Park City for a bottle of wine and some yummy tomato, basil, and artichoke soup, chatted for a few hours, and headed out.

I checked other concert postings today, and not only am I thrilled to see John Feldman finally stopped producing long enough for his band Goldfinger to release a new CD on February 16, but they have a show on February 26 at the House of Blues (EXCELLENT venue). I’m ecstatic. It’s about dang time.

This week I have plans for just about every second of the day, and I’m starting to wonder what has come over me with all of these social goings-on. Tonight is our first dart match of the spring session, tomorrow I plan to try to make it to the W. again, Wednesday I have happy hour plans, Thursday I have dinner plans, Friday night I work (still no word from the new place), Saturday I’m supposed to plan the events for Jess’s birthday (because apparently I know all of the cool places and I’m just not wanting to plan something where people don’t have fun and point the finger at me for choosing the venue), and Sunday is still free (though I think I'm supposed to go and get measured for a bridesmaid dress...*sigh*).

It’s going to be a great week!
