Book Recommendations, Please!

With one bitch of a semester *finally* behind me, it's time for me to cram into 2.5 weeks all of the things that I've been aching to do since October and either haven't done, or felt really guilty while doing them. What are they you ask?

In no particular order, I want to kill some zombies, clean the apartment, work out, grocery shop, cook some veg*n yumminess, drink some wine, do some laundry, Christmas shop (yuck!), and, after all of these weeks and weeks of reading and studying, I want to READ. For PLEASURE. *gasp*

I've been saving Betty Brock's "The Shades" for the end of this semester. I remember loving the hell out of this book when I was young, and thanks to a saint of a journalscape comment leaver, I figured out the title and author and ordered it post hasty from a book shop in England.

Unfortunately, however, after a brief perusal of the books in my apartment that I still need to read, none of them have grabbed me. And, with a mere 2.5 weeks until school starts again, I don't want to waste any of my precious time reading crap... I need help.

If anyone reading this has book recommendations they'd like to share, do a girl a favor and leave them here. There are, however, some guidelines:

Nothing heavy! The last book I read was called "Administrative Law," and the one before that had "Tax" in the title. Nothing complicated, tedious, or exhausting. I need light (but not *too* light...no bodice rippers or authors named "Sparks" or "Higgins Clark").

Nothing too "out there." And by "out there," I'm referring to all of you David Foster Wallace and Thomas Pynchon nut jobs. Ok, I get it, you're all smart and creative. I'm impressed. Is that what you want to hear?

Recommend something you'd leave for someone that drools over Austen, Dickens, Waugh, Forster, James, and the Bronte sisters.

I think those are my only guidelines. So c'mon. Please. I'm begging you. Recommend something that'll make me drag you into a dark corner and make out with you because I loved your damn book recommendation so much.

Thanks!
