Ouch.

I’ve woken up with Myriad Harbor by the New Pornographers rattling around in my sad little brain for the past three mornings. It’s not a bad way to wake up, I suppose, but out of all the songs that could be dinging around in there, like a single marble in an empty piggy bank, I’m not sure why it’s *that* song.

Last week I went to the Beachland for the Okkervil River/New Pornographers show and Ho. Lee. Crap. It was one of the best shows I’ve been to in years. I had no idea that Okkervil River, live, would practically set my hair on fire. I was completely blown away. Even Aud, who is lukewarm about the band to begin with, was impressed. [Aside: half of my fun at shows with Aud is checking out his reaction and hearing what he thought about the show afterwards. The New Pornos seemed to sneak up on him days later. He enjoyed the show at the time, but he was much more enthusiastic about it two days later. I’m not sure why.] I can’t wait to see the band again in Chicago again in August. The performance made me feel much better about buying Lollapalooza tickets before this year’s lineup was announced, and then being a bit disappointed at the overall suckiness of this year’s bands.

And, though I was going to talk about other things today, my fall down some stairs between the last paragraph and this paragraph, with the attendant rug burn on my face, sore knee, and the possibility that I may now need a hip replacement, will stop me here. Let’s hope that this most recent splat does not have any bearing on my chances of being hired for the job that I just applied for and really, desperately, want.
