Words-of-Mine

No matter what the day brings, deep down I know it really is a good day because I have the man of my dreams, a kitty who loves me, a roof over my head and I live in paradise.

Independence Day has all sorts of meaning to each individual.

For me it began when I was a child and visiting my Great Aunt Lish in Tonganoxie, Kansas. My Grandmother had all ready died by then. Between GA Lish and my Granddad (on mother's side) they created quite a spread and the fireworks show that evening was to die for and all kinds of fireworks and my favorite, sparklers.

My next recollection was as a young adult. It meant getting together with friends, have a picnic in the park and party time! My favorite time was spent with my best friend L and her then husband G. They lived in an apartment complex which had a pool. G would barbecue off the deck, my favorite, filet mignon covered with sautéed mushrooms. After eating we would retire to the pool and laze around in the water or sunbathe, a nice relaxing afternoon. I don't recall going somewhere to see fireworks. I'm sure the Royals baseball team, if they were in town, would have had a program.

Then comes the year, and this is where today's quote comes in, 1992, instead of blaming the guys for overindulging in alcohol and drugs and then I would either have to chance it with them, get someone else to bring me home, or walk home to be safe.

After deciding whether to buy a house or a motorcycle, I chose the motorcycle. On July 3, I said yes to the ownership of Ruby A. Technically her birthday is on the 3rd but I have always considered the 4th her birthday because that became my independence day. No longer did I have to rely on someone else for a ride. I didn't have to nag about how much stuff was being ingested into one's body.

I found the solution and I have never regretted it. This year makes Ruby's 20th birthday. So, happy birthday Ruby!
