Linen arrives

And here I thought I'd have a night with nothing to do on this insanity. Hah!

The Fabric Store order arrived: 5 yards red linen and 3 yards black linen. Most of the red is for my under skirt with the remainder (and the black) for the kids tunics. My first thought was to make a gored skirt. I don't need any additional fullness at my hips thank you very much! BUT time is of the essence.

Sooooo, I did the stuff-3-yards-of-fabric-into-a-waistband skirt a-la-reddawn.net. Didn't follow her instructions exactly. I machine basted it for the gathering rather than hand basting. Did the waist band a bit differently in that I didn't finish all the edges like she described. (one of the long edges was selvege and the other was serged) Briefly considered knife-pleating it but then remembered...Oh yeah! I'm trying to save time. LOL!

So, the skirt is done. Its not as wide at the hem as I'd like and its got more material at the hips than I like BUT I didn't have to hem it AND... IT'S DONE!
