Thankful, without thanksgiving

In some places people can be thankful without "Thanksgiving".

In my case I received a phone call mid-morning on Saturday last and was told where I could recover a great deal of unwanted heating oil suitable for the winter furnace. It was difficult to think about heating on a day when the blazing sun and coming Summer seemed to break out.

However, I am thankful that we got the call, as our heating supplies for 6 months hence are now assured. And, the price was definitely right: Nil, except our "sweat equity".

I made the mistake of talking through the economics of free oil on the way back, and my 17y/o son quickly asked, "Well, can we wipe the slate clean?" He owed me for some electrical goods I'd paid for about 6 months ago. Fair's fair, so, yes, he had worked off the debt. He was thankful, too!
