Pyry the Finn - fan Page
Tonight my middle son Steven received his trophy for being in the winning team for junior squash in our city. He plays #3 in a three man team.
The #1 in the team has been a young man from Finland here in Australia on a youth exchange scheme.
Pyry Poikolainen (pronounce the first name as 'Pu-ru' but said quickly like P'r') has been wonderful to hear stories about; and, last weekend I saw him play when the play-offs were held for 1st and 2nd in the junior squash competition.
I felt very sorry for the other team's #1, who took 3 points off Pyry in three games of the very one-sided match.
In 2004, Pyry was in the middle high school years and in May that year played of the 13th-17th places in Europe.
In a few weeks he plays in the 2006 World Juniors Squash World Championships in New Zealand, 16-28 July 2006. He has a ranking in the bottom of the draw.
But, I'll be looking for the Australian link to bring him up the rankings in the final scores.
