Leap (Second) for Joy this New Year's Eve

Thanks to Slashdot.org, I can also add the warning:

"Don't be the laughingstock of your friends when you shout 'Happy New Years' a second too early * ... The International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service has announced that a leap second will be added on December 31, 2008 at 23h 59m 60s, meaning that this year will be exactly one second longer."

* Of course, there is only one time zone where you'd be wrong doing this, as there is only one time zone where the local time corresponds with UTC (Universal Coordinated Time).

Official Notice: International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service

and, thanks to Wikipedia, read all about the Leap Second!
