We were pretty busy at work the other day. We try to run about 22% labor, for maximum effeciantcy. We have run short of that each day for the past week or so. That means I could use extra crew. Washington State has passed the highest minimum wage in the entire country, effective today, so I am guessing the company wants to try to lower our labor percentage. What we have been running, is about 14%. When this happens, we work extremely hard. Day after day, it is getting very difficult.

So, guests had to wait to have their order taken, and they had to wait for their order to be prepared. This man had ordered a 4 pc nugget kids meal. By the time I got to his order to pick it up, the folks in the kitchen tell me that the nuggets are cooking for another minute and a half. I assemble his order, except for the nuggets, and go on to the next one...or two...

He yells at me, to just put a cheeseburger into the bag...and I do that, and give it to him. He then yells again, that he wants the difference in the price, which is fine, I guess, except that by the time I can do that task, his nuggets will be done. And it does take a while, because I have to wait for a computer to become available to do a refund, then re-ring the Cheeseburger meal, and get him the difference in change (it was less than 50 cents). He then flings a BigMac across the counter toward me (I have no idea where he had that this whole time, they all look alike in this situation) He again yells, that he wants his money back for that, too, since it is now cold, and he wont be eating it. I did not say a word this time, as I was ready to explode myself. (every other guest in the place is waiting for me to free up myself so I can get to their order. they all wait for this guy to get out) I made him sign each refund receipt just to piss him off more, and still I don't say a word to him. He says he wants the corporate phone number, and the store manager name. I take his kids meal receipt and write "B" on it, and circle the already written phone number on it, and shove it towards him. I turn and get on with my job.

The nice thing, is that the other guests, watched, and waited, and then thanked me for getting their food. Some said they realize I was doing all I could in this situation, and wished me the best.

One guy can ruin an entire day. I am sure "B" will use this as ammunition for the next time she wants to fire me. One day I will type up all of those gory details. Does anyone read these? I feel better getting them off my chest. It reminds me of all those English Language classes when they tell you to keep a journal, and you can never come up with anything to write, so you do not do well in that class. Now, it is just flowing...
