I left my house just after 10:00 this morning. By the time I got to North Bend, I was ready to add a little heat to my system, and since my heated jacket isn't working, I used the little disposable toe warmers in my boots, and another long sleeve shirt. I was quite comfy then. The Pass had a little bit of rain, more like a mist off the roadway, not too bad. There were hardly any others out today, and it was a very comfortable ride. I got off at Cle Elum, and took the lesser used highway 10 into Ellensburg, as planned. That must be used only by locals, and wasn't marked too clearly, as it came to a "T", with an arrow pointing left to the airport. I knew I wasn't needing a flight, but wasn't too sure, so I asked the lady in the truck that had been following me for some time, and she just said to follow her, so I did. thankfully she knew which way. Once in town, I just cannot get too lost. i had spent a lot of time in my youth in that town. That took me to Canyon Road, where I needed to pass the only car I saw on the it. there is a big straight stretch as you are entering the canyon, so I gunned it, and as I was alongside him, I realized it had 'exempt' plates....uhoh...know of any WSP in little white Jeep Liberty's? Whatever it was, it didn't bother stopping me. I thought about pulling over for a little snack, but all the turnouts are deep gravel rock crap, and I didn't want an incident, so I just kept going. Made it to Miner's and had a burger and a small shake, and stripped down to summer weather before I roasted. I talked to both Mike and Cindy at that point, saying I didn't know if I was going to make any more stops, or just keep going 70+. Pulled into Cindys just after 3:00. Not bad for three stops. Takes us ust about 4 hours driving, so 5 wasn't bad at all for my longest solo trip. I did find that I paced whatever was in front of me, as long as they were going the speed limit. Near the end of the ride, I knew my exit was coing up, and I saw a sign ahead, but I wasn't positive if it was the warning that it was coming in a mile or so, or the actual exit here sign. Problem was, I had a flatbed pickup, with a very heavy load in front of me. I chose to go around him, instead of applying brakes, and read that sign. As I got into the left lane, I realixe there is definately a WSP in the median, with his radar pointing right at me, and I was going 85. shit! I got around the guy, and tucked in just in front of him, made the exit, and never saw the cop again...whew...I know he had me, but he probably thought I looked pretty good in my pink get-up...hehehe...yeah, whatever, let me dream... Very hectic at cindys house, as always. The kids always have things going on, and need rides here and there. We all went to get the grandkids, and take them out to dinner. She says she has been doing this for a few weeks, and I was excited to see those kids! They have grown a lot in a year. Heck, I thought Sadie Jane was her mother, and that kid is 11...She looks much older! Took 'em to "The Great Wall Of China Buffet". We ate a lot of food, and sat and chatted and giggled, and looked at each others pictures on cell phones. Kaylie managed to cut her finger ona crab shell. Sadie gave Kairan a swirlie, and Natalie gassed us out of the van on the way home. I am pretty well worn out... going to bed soon. Hoping to find a book to read, as I didn't pack one. Need that kindle2! |
