Feeling the Responsibility

My shift was 7-3 today. They were pretty busy when I arrived, and we needed three half hour breaks out. It took us until just after nine to get each of those, and of course we needed many more breaks covered by then. I was in charge for the first time at this store, and I was a bit worried, since I was down two shifts. Fridays are always busy, and that means I may have to work a position. Not a good option with this store. I called the supervisor to see if he indeed was making an appearance, since he had told me on Wednesday he would. At least then, I had an extra body. He came by, and sat with me for a few minutes, and helped me formulate a floor plan. That helped a lot, since I really do not know the strengths and weaknesses of the crew. He had another fire elslewhere to deal with, so he was off and running, and I was on my own. It worked out fine, we broke the $1,000 lunch hour mark, and it felt great. I proved I could do it, and all was well.

We had our 'fires' to put out all day too. Extend this guy, call this one in early, do what I can to cover those two shifts...re-attach the water hose to the ice tea brewer...find the key, and two books needed for the new armored truck guy to pick up the charity money (a new process for us, and I had NO IDEA where 2/3's of that was located)...send someone to 'borrow' iced tea packets from another store...Got it all done, and the day sped along pretty quickly.

I did end up staying until 4:00, then I was stuck in accident traffic forever on the way home. By the time I arrived here, I just wanted to sit on my butt and not do a thing. Mike had a long day at work, getting home after 8pm. We decided to just drain the swimming pool, and start over. We got that hose attached, and it will drain all night long. We may have to rent a small pump tomorrow afternoon, but we are not sure. Then, scrub the crap out of the thing, and refill. Oh, and take better care of it this time. Yeah, that is what we should do.

Dinner was porcupines...followed with leftover homemade ice-cream...
