ohmycheesus My 7-3 shift on Fridays just cannot get over soon enough. Today was special...Our assistant manager is heading on vacation, then he will have two shifts with us, then he becomes the store manager (I think anyway) of the smallest store in our fleet. I will miss him a whole lot, as we have been having a good time. The assistant that will take his place was at our store for the first time today. She was scheduled 'off the floor' with the boss today, just learning her way around, and a lot of office time for them both. The supervisor was there for the mostpart also. We were busy...I mean BUSY. Our Friday opening manger is going to have to figure out how to give out meal breaks when it is slow. To leave everything for later is causing a lot of break build ups, happening each Friday. Our sales were astronimical, and that opening manager left 15 minutes AFTER she came back from her meal break, not feeling well. Just a "I talked to the boss, and she said I could go home. Bye" Huh? The only thing better than being busy, is being short-handed... 8-9=$600 9-10=$650 10-11=$650 11-12=$1100 12-1=$1200 1-2=$950 ($700@the 1:30 mark) I know those numbers won't mean a lot to a lot of folks, but to the loads of my peers...You have a hard time getting breaks out, while working a position, and not having enough time to breathe. The boss and the new asst came and helped out for a while, then pulled off for a while saying it has slowed down, I think you have it under control. Um, yeah, but I need several breaks out, we are all dying...whatever, I guess she didn't think we needed her, so when she finally realised we could use the help, it was too late. The lunch rush was upon us. All hands on deck... I did not choose to stay beyond my shift. They wanted me to stay and learn the new sandwich procedures, but I skipped on out, thinking it can't be that hard, and I am exhausted. Besides, they were having issues with it, and it seemed to me that it would take another hour. I told the supervisor it was best that I just leave, and left. Very nice arriving home to find the house vacated of all people. Kind of warm today, so I left the front door open, and sat at the computer for a few minutes. I was not home for more that 10 minutes, when I heard a car speeding up the hill, a WHACK, then a dog whimpering in pain. OHMYGODMICKEY! I cried, as I sped out the door. Seriously I have not run that fast in years. I thought I would find 75 pounds of bloody dying dog, and I was in tears already. I looked up the hill to see an unknown blue car still speeding to the stop sign. No way I could even get in my car and chase it, I needed to find the dog. I was in my uniform, and sock footed, on wet asphalt, running up and down, looking in the ditch, that is covered with underbrush, looking under cars, the utility trailer, down the neighbors driveway, in the lower branches of our three trees that cover the grass...I cannot find a dog anywhere. The neighbor arrives home while I am out there. She sees I am hysterical, says something about her husband, and be back. I came inside the house, looking, calling, whistling for Mickey. Not in the living room. Not in Caitlyns room, either on the floor or on her bed. I stop in the living room again, and take a deep breath and think. I need to check the back bathroom, where she goes when she is scared....the door is shut, I try to open it, and I cannot...Then, it come free, and Mickey looks up at me, saying thanks, I was stuck...I tell her to come run with me to the front room, and she moves real well, and jumps up into her chair. I stop and pet her, and massage her a bit, and she does not flinch, telling me that she was not the dog I heard. whew...for now anyway. I head back outside, to meet the neaighbor lady. She has her husband out in the back yard, where there is a lot of overgrown blackberries, and weeds and stuff. He comes saying he can't find her back there, but we let him know she is safe. I still have no idea exactly what happened, whose dog was involved, or why I heard that car speed off twice. I think they stopped, and did soemthing to Mickey, making her yelp, and as I ran straight out to the road, she took the shortcut on the sidewalk, hidden from me by trees and the car. Since she was frightened, she went straight back to the bathroom, and I never thought of looking there. Our road is 4 blocks into a deadend. It goes for another block after us. There are not that many cars that don't belong there. I will see that car again one day. Not sure what I will do... I came inside, and got a pork roast going. Added carrots, onions, garlic, potatoes... |
