It was my kind of evening...Diva Night. I was a bit afraid to show up, as I am not a typical avid R.E.I. type. Mike and I have been members since we moved to Seattle area, in 1985. While shopping a month or two ago, I was told about this upcoming Diva Night. Special event for women. Lots of vendors, sharing information, and perhaps free stuff. Door prizes, drawings, and fun. Okay, I signed up and requested to be off in time to get there. I finished my stuff at work, and instead of offering to stay and cover a break, I bolted...(sorry Twila, I promise to make it up to you somehow). I hit each and every red light on my path. I chose what I thought to be the quickest route to the mall. I then encountered a detour, making it perhaps the longest route in history...The mall was packed to the outside parking spots, the air conditioning must be working just fine inside. I did get lucky, and find a spot rather quickly, and hurried inside. It was 102 degrees today, the hottest day in the history of recorded temperatures in Seattle. Walking to the store was the longest amount of time I had spent outside in it all day. I got in, and immediatly got started. They gave each of us a sheet of paper, and we had to collect stamps at each booth, to show we had visited. Once the sheet was filled out, we entered it into the drawing. Along the way, I got this stuff: A very nice Gore-Tex travel bag several stickers Clif Bar (cool mint) reflector key chain 2 different tubes of chapstick (I lost mine out of my tank bag last Thursday...somewhere on I-405, with my eye drops) several candy bars and jolly ranchers two pens and a notepad (different booths) set of postcards from around the world luggage tag two pairs of socks (Shimano and Smartwool) pair of North Face winter play in the snow mittens moisture wicking t-shirt Marmot playing cards Sawyer insect repellent Eagle Creek travel kit/storage bag Columbia spiral notebook Fozzels ThinkFLAT travelware bowl three different energy chews samples What I bought: Pair of smartwool socks, after consulting with the rep about riding the motorcycle in HOT weather Pair of pink Teva flip flops for Aurelia (they were on clearance, forgive me) short cable for locking my helmet to my Beemer (it was $4) three different dehydrated meals in a pouch for the trip, pesto salmon with pasta, alfredo pasta, and fiesta rice...each are low sodium, hope I am hungry enough to like 'em the Pinnacle Duelist cooking and eating system. Packs very small, and everything we will need with our JetBoil. They gave us each a 15% off any ONE item. We had been wanting this for a while, but shopping around. It is the same price everywhere. I didn't even win a door prize! We leave in less than 2 weeks! This Saturday we will do a dry run packing, making sure we have everything we will need, and can fit it all on the two bikes. Came home, to find Mike, Brittany and Caitlyn out in the pool. I raced to join them, and we all sat and chatted in the water for nearly an hour. My body core temp is managable now. Hopefully I can get to bed without it rising too far. He barbequed a chicken, and I ate when I got out. Cold chicken hit the spot just fine. |
