I have been a part of a ladies riding group ever since I purchased my current motorcycle. I bought it used from the Lynnwood Cycle Barn, and they have several different riding clubs. Let's see if I can guess them all...Harley riders, Triumph riders, cruisers (that includes a LOT of bikes), Sport Bikes, Goldwing riders (well, they have their own club), women, dirt bikes...there could be more. I have been riding for years, and buying accessories from them, but I never knew of any clubs prior to the bike purchase. They put me into two clubs, the ladies, and the cruisers. I went blindly into a group ride one Saturday morning, just seeing what it would be like. I was betting that it would be full of 20 year old girls, all on crotch rockets. I was also betting that I would see a lot of those bikes in the Starbucks parking lot, and I would not even stop. I was wrong, to the utmost percent. I saw cruisers in the lot, great big, jeez, it is hard to believe these are ridden by women cruisers. This was before i had my custom seat, and I hopped off my bike, which was indeed too tall for me then, and went inside to find the women. They met me at the door, and asked if I was here for the ride. These women were all my age, or older. The Scout wasn't at that first ride of mine, she was living on the island, and could not make every ride. She is younger than I, but at this one, I was impressed as I had ever been in my life. I knew right then, that I would enjoy these girls as sorority sisters. I went on as many rides with them as I could, enjoying each and every one of them. I think Mike was a bit jealous, as he isn't in any clubs, but that isn't my fault. When he got his Goldwing, I checked into clubs (that was when we only had phone books, and had to actually talk to people). Anyway, for whatever reason, the womens club has really started to shrink. There are only about 10 or 12 "core" members, but the e-mail list is massive long. I have tried to break into the 'core', and be a part of route planning, and activities. I have not been on many rides this year however. I had managed to get my work schedule arranged so I have Saturdays off, but then the ladies changed some rides to Sundays, that I just cannot attend. That is cool, perhaps some members just cannot attend Saturdays, I understand that. Now Dave, the spokesman from the Cycle Barn is trying to come up with a plan to save the club. He has asked for our opinions, and has found that when you ask that of 100 or so women, you better be ready to take it. Now us here on JS know that Scout has some opinions herself, and she is highly educated, and is albe to express herself. SHe made the first comments, and I agreed with her. I did not have time to respond, and chose to stay quiet for a while, as my mouth usually gets me in more trouble. I did not like his responce to her opinions. Period. He made a statement that her opinions are making him "pull out what is left of his hair"...Now I do like Dave usually, but not one of the ladies has made more initiative of keeping the group going more than the Scout. She had lunch with him a couple of weeks ago, then deleted all the rides from her meet-up calendar. I can only assume things didn't go well, but it could just be a liability issue, I don't really know. Dave now has a "Meet and Greet" social on the calendar, and I hope that goes well. Of course it is on the only Saturday that I have prior plans, but I will try to attend. Hopefully this all comes out fine, and I can ride with a group of women again. I know there are others out there, but I liked THIS group. Things I would like to see in the future? I thin it would be cool to take a dirt riders course through the state with these girls. This will give us a chance to ride someone elses bike on gravel, and get us through it without falling. There are a lot of things we would use on the road with the knowledge of that class. An advanced rides course together would be fun, too. That one requires ones own bike, but that is do-able. A ride to a cabin near Republic Wa, where we stay the night, cook, and drink and eat together, ride all day, then do it again before we come home. Not that anyone here cares about any of this, but it has been on my mind lately...Just thought I better address the issue, and maybe I could find something in there to forward to Dave. I had other issues with the group, but that has been resolved. I would have liked them to give me an ultimatum to my face, and not behind my back, but I am over that, and riding with them once more. Seems Mike made himself some stinky saurkraut and sausages for dinner without me. Twila and I had teriyaki from across the parking lot on our breaks. |
