I had to work at the Monroe location today, as that is where the State Fair is, and they always need an extra pair of hands or two. I chose to ride the motorcycle, as it is a nice ride out there and back, if one has time to enjoy it. Of course, I didn't have too much time this morning, so I Just took the freeway system, which is okay, because it isn't one I take on a normal basis. My shift was 8-4, and let's just say I arrived no later than 8:00, even if I was in full riding gear. I had to stop for fuel, as my low light was on, and at least around the homestead, I know where to go for it. It is a 25 mile ride to get there, no wonder I refused for so long to do that last winter. I was told around 2:00 that they have my shift ending at 5pm, not 4. I quickly, without thinking too much, said that would put me into overtime, which I knew they would not want to be responsible for. She let me go around 2:30 just to be sure not to have to do that...hehehe... I really hate working other stores. Never really know the crew, or where to find anything. Just looking for a ketchup packet is difficult. The manager told me that I would be in charge of the kitchen staff through lunch. Sure, whatever, I can do that, just that it isn't something I would normally do, and I don't know this store at all. It turned out to be on the slow side, so I did a decent job. On the way home, I needed to stop by my home store, to drop off some stuff we were borrowing, and to make sure I get paid for today. The traffic was a mess, with the fair right there, so I chose to go through town, on "Main Street", past the state prison, and the "Old Monroe/Snohomish Highway". Very scenic, and carefree riding, then backroads to the store. I think it was 15 miles, then the 10 miles home from there. Once home, I realised that I had missed Mike...oops...I had told him yesterday to ride out there, and we would go for an extended ride home. Since I left at 2:30 I assumed he would get my text, but since he was out riding, he didn't. I should have called, he would have received the call. So he went all the way out there for naught. I went grocery shopping. He finaly caught up with me there by phonesaying he had already been to a grocery store, and don't buy bread or milk. whew...I hate having too much of those on hand, specially with so few living here. I Made Pico de Gallo with MY TOMATOES!!! YAY ME!! Finally I had enough to do something with. I bought 4 vine-ripe tomatoes at the store, just in case, but I didn't use them in the pico, only in the guacamole. We had fajitas out on the bbq. I made Spanish rice from scratch (thanks to Cindy for showing me how to do that, years ago) I made the marinade for the beef strips, too. Dinner was FABULOUS! Oh, I got an MP3 player the other day, and finally got music on it, and listened to it while riding today. I can go just under 10 hours without hearing the same song twice. I can listen to any FM station, or watch a movie...okay, so I can't watch a movie while riding, but if I was in a tent, in the middle of friggen nowhere, I could...Shoulda done this a month ago, huh? The problem I will have, is that to recharge the battery, it only has a USB hook-up. I will need a notebook computer, and an adapter for a vehicle. This is going to snowball. |
