Christine's New Chapter
Never look down...

DEMON SOUL was released in MARCH, 2011 by Crescent Moon Press. DEMON HUNT will most likely be released 2012. This, then, is my new reality! The tumor has been removed and I'm recovering, so now it's all about the writing...and dealing with the writing.

A solid day

Pages Written... 5+ new; editing
Listening to... twilight mourning doves

A good day, overall. I missed yoga class - a real "d'oh!" moment of too many phone calls and not enough looking at the clock.

Today's writing went well. I polished up the first half of the novel, and then dug in and rewrote a part of the first chapter. Actually, I'm still rewriting it, but I like it - thank goodness for critique partners who aren't afraid to point out where the work could be stronger. Tomorrow, I'll finish off that first chapter (only a couple of pages total) and then move on to the second hundred pages. Life is good.

Saturday I took the plunge, spent a couple hours writing a one page, single-spaced synopsis for a retreat at RWA's National conference this summer. They are taking the first 50 submissions of one-page synopsis plus the first page of the manuscript, taking the twenty best of those, and giving them to an agent panel and an editor panel to critique in front of the group. The deadline was today, but as of Saturday they hadn't gotten enough submissions so I thought, what the hell? I sent my stuff to the editor panel, as I'm not looking for an agent just yet.

Now of course I'm prepared for my synopsis to be trashed, because it's bloody hard to do a one-pager the first time out on a book. Normally the first synopsis is as long as it needs to be for me to get the story out - then I start cutting. So it was weird for me to do it like this.

Here's hoping my stuff gets picked (and not because it's so terrible, either!).

After I finish and send this book off, I must seriously think about what I want to write next, and which editor I'm going to target next. I get to sign up for editor/agent appointments a week from today, but I'd kind of like to know what the heck I'm going to pitch. I should probably go with another Desire, as I've already got a story outlined and there's a new assistant editor there (though I don't know if she'll be at Nationals or not). But then again, maybe not.

An invidious position to put myself in, to be sure. As long as I actually finish the novel before pitching, I suppose it doesn't matter much WHAT I pitch...but the decision process is weighing on me.

I think I'll shove it all into the dark corners of my brain and go make dinner.
