It only took me a hundred pages to realize how screwed up my book is. My characters don't want to spend time together, they take Very Abrupt Turns for no reason, and my mythology isn't thought out so it doesn't make sense. It's enough to make any sane woman toss it.

So I did.

Well, not literally. But I'm rewriting it from scratch - everything is different. I'm not even keeping the come-to-life gargoyles (well, maybe, but not right now). Characters with a history are so much more interesting than ones without a history. I personally have a boring history for most of my life. (There are about five years in there that are pretty interesting...but that's it.) Perhaps that's why it's hard for me to write characters WITH a history?

At any rate, I started from scratch again. And actually I'm pretty darned pleased with what brainstorming I got done today, so there's that.

This writing is hard stuff.

In other news, I'm sorry to report that I won't be going to RWA's National Conference this year - this will be the first time since 2002 that I haven't gone. It will be weird not to be a part of the madness, but I just don't have the funding this year. It sucks, big time, but there's not much I can do about it. I'm hoping that next year I'll be able to go - it's in Dallas.

But I'm gonna miss my chance to see domynoe - and that truly sucks the big one.
