CREDO

CREDO has been selected to screen at Cinequest Online, the Internet arm of the Cinequest Film Festival. Here's an excerpt from the acceptance email:

Thank you very much for submitting your short film to Cinequest and for introducing us to your fantastic film! I'm writing to invite you to screen your film on Cinequest Online, and to participate in our Viewers' Voice Competition in February 2006. This invitation is only for films that scored well with the Programming Committee however were not included in the final selection for Cinequest Film Festival 16 in March 2006.

The Viewers' Voice Competition Winners will receive a screening spot at the Cinequest Film Festival based on votes from the registered global Cinequest Online community. As only strong submissions to Cinequest are being invited to the Viewers' Voice Competition, we are allocating a screening to Viewers Voice Competition Winners the last week of Cinequest 16, March 7 - 12, 2006.

This email was the subject of much discussion at the Withoutabox message boards, for two reasons. First, no one was quite sure whether to believe that "only for films that scored well with the Programming Committee" were invited. Second, some film festivals will reject your film if it's already available online.

Two representatives from Cinequest joined the conversation and clarified that yes, the email was only sent to films they really enjoyed and wanted to program but had insufficient screen time for. That still left the question of invalidating CREDO from other festivals, but several other festival coordinators spoke up and said it really wasn't a problem for them.

We decided that online availability is less of a problem now that we're nearing the end of our festival submission phase. Between that and our original goal of simply making something we felt strongly about and then letting it out into the world, we decided to accept.

You will be able to watch CREDO online, starting in February.

And since it'll also be entered in the Viewer's Voice contest, limber up your clicking fingers...
