people need to learn how to cook

For the second time in less than 4 months the apartment fire alarm went off at 12 midnight. That's right folks, loud noise, panic sets in, heart beats real fast-not to mention being in a dead sleep, not thinking clearly and trying to get into something that covers you decently and yet won't kill you with heat-warm bathrobe not option when its 80F outside. And all because people are cooking, burn their pan and instead of opening their apartment windows-after all the air conditioning is on, they open the apartment door. All it takes is 1 small whiff of smoke and the alarms have to go off -government safety standards. I appreciate the standards, but not the stupidity. Before you open the door-open the windows, the draft will send the smoke out the windows. So down the stairs we tread-husband with 2 canes. We are on the 3rd floor-1 level down brings us to the first floor at the front of the building. Husband can't take wheelchair-he'll fry before they can get him out. Then the all clear, we all walk back in and the alarm goes off a second time-oops that was accidental because firemen are using big fan to blow smoke out of the hallways. The kicker, both times the alarm went off, it was because of cooking on my floor. UP to bed, finally back to sleep and alarm goes off at 4:30-I think. Made it here to work, but my body really was trying to convince my mind to call in sick. And today at work we are scheduled to have a Shelter in Place drill. Lots of fun. Got to see the management of the apartment at least. They looked as bad as we did. Management said that they never have had a real fire in the building-it is always cooking smoke. Very comforting, but please don't do it at midnight!! Some of us have to work!! Enough of rant. Time to crochet-trying to make belt, new pattern that a friend in St. Louis developed. Using purple yarn at work-I don't have any purple clothes, but maybe at Halloween with a black long sheet and witches hat? We'll see.
