WARM!

It is too warm. It is October right? Late October? It is 70 and rising. Too warm for the DC area and last night we had tornado alerts in the area. I don't know if we had any in the counties that flashed across our tv screen-I had to go to bed. But we have the warm rain. Lots of it. I want the cool crisp autumn days of New England. The reds, golds, oranges and browns with just a hint of the evergreen showing through countryside! The smell of the fresh air! The squirrels rustling and the wind! And jumping into a pile of raked leaves!! oh well, not here. And much like the upper midwest, I expect that before the weekend is over, we won't have any leaves left on the trees. Only, snow will probably be a long time in coming. Hey, maybe we will have a winter like last year with lots of it!! I like that!

On another note, for 2 of the past 3 years, I have worked the day after US Thanksgiving. There are 3 secretaries in my division. The other 2 "ALWAYS" take that day off. Now, the division secretary desk is suppose to be manned. The attitude is that "who is going to be in to call?" HUH? Then yesterday a call comes down (actually email) can someone from our 3 cover the FRONT office, since the division that is responsible won't have a secretary in. HUH? Something is out of focus here. I know that day is traditionaly slow, but, work is work. Someone has to be here-rotate the job. My division secretary is going out of town-her mother lives out of state and she travels to visit her on the major holidays. OK, work something out here. That leaves two of us. Why do I get the feeling that I will be working? I will not be taking any other holiday leave this year, but I can guarantee you the division secretary will be! (and during December when we cover the FRONT office)

My dd and family will not be able to come out for Christmas, don't think ds family will either. So another quiet one for us. What else is new.
