Positive

This was what I received this morning:

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for applying to the 120-day detail for an Administrative Specialist in the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

Before moving forward in the process, however, we wanted to reiterate that the post of duty is in Washington DC and that relocation expenses will not be provided. Also, you must have the approval of your supervisor to be selected for this detail.

Please respond NO LATER THAN NOON on FRIDAY, APRIL 8, 2011 to confirm your interest in this detail and that you have received your supervisor’s approval for this detail.

Thank you.

I responded:
I understand that the detail is in Washington DC- I am currently assigned there. I have the approval of my supervisor, since she notified me of this opportunity. Thank you.

THEN THIS FOLLOWED:
Crochetlady,
Just for clarification, have you told your supervisor you are applying and will your supervisor permit you to come over if selected?

We are finding - in these tough budget/resource times - that some supervisors are reluctant to let their staff go, even if it's temporary.

Thanks,
potentially my new boss.

my response:
Yes, I have told my supervisor and she has no qualms about me accepting this assignment. I explained your concerns of choosing someone and then not having them being allowed to work in the position.
What also helps is, that as a developmental assignment, they have a person detailed in as a Program Management Assistant (a little over a year ago I worked in her old office on a detail). My manager has stated that there is no problem with me accepting this detail.

Received:
Thank you!
potentially my new boss.

So, my question to you all-think I got it?

This is the most active response I have ever received from this type of application. It would do me some good to be out of this office for a little while. And although the job may not lead to a full time position, I found out that the last person that went on detail there was called back by her manager. I also found out that the other secretary that is the same grade I am in this division applied for this detail last time around and didn't get it.

I know that this will stop DH & I from having lunches together and that my tour of duty will probably change-both positives to my way of thinking. (not to his-we've already talked about it and he's not too happy about that aspect of it.) I do know that they will call my manager and talk to her, that manager told me she hopes I get it. Time for changes I think.
