Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

AETW: 2220
exercise: 25 ct, 1 abs

Wrote about 700 words, then exercised. Took a quick dip in the newly drained, acid-washed, refilled, and chemicaled pool; the heater’s not on yet, so it was a bit chilly. Lovely, though. I think maybe I’ll start adding in a few “laps” (the pool’s not rectangular) for an upper-body workout.

Today the mail brought a quick turnaround rejection from F&SF for “Proof of Devotion”, and the new contract from Silver Lake Publishing for the revised antho of The Witching Hour and my story “…Of Human Sacrifice and Parents’ Tears”.

Time to shower, and then back to writing.

“Proof of Devotion” has gone out to Strange Horizons. I’m still waiting to hear back from a mag before I send out “Souls Under Glass”; I had a question about submission procedure.

I made pasta for dinner (jarred sauce doctored with ground beef, broccoli, garlic, basil, oregano, and cayenne pepper) and then folks came over for sewing night. I put the gussets and sleeves on my tunic, and cut out the gores. I have to sew those in, sew trim up the sides and on the sleeves and around the neckline, and add a band of black at the bottom because it’s too short (remember, it was partly made into a kimono for someone else), and then I’ll be done. J I have a lot of hand sewing to do, so I need to start on that. Plus finish whatever else I was supposed to make for Meg for Pennsic; I’ve completely forgotten what it is, though; must e-mail her. What really want to do, of course, is start the new Italian…or a goth dress in purple stretch velvet…

Meanwhile, Ken did another pass with the sanders on the library floor, cleaned it with mineral spirits, and put down the apres-sanding stuff. Tomorrow: polyurethane, coat one.

Whee! Finished Chapter 7 _and_ broke 2K! I was shooting for 1500, but when I hit that I was on a roll. I think I’ll start Chapter 8 while the laptop’s smoking.
