Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Musing on future plans

AETW: 600

This morning’s dream was about getting part two of my tattoo done (the phases of the moon below the Celtic knotwork band—part three will be some sort of connector so it looks like a charm bracelet—but I haven’t decided what kind of connector…suggestions welcome!). Kinda makes sense, as I’ve been thinking about this lately and have found a tattooist (do tattooists come from Tatooine?) in Santa Barbara who looks promising.

I just noticed that National Novel Writing Month is November, and NaNoWriMo will happen again—basically, a write-a-novel-in-a-month Dare. I’m tempted. There are only two events we’ll definitely go to in November, and they’re on the same weekend, and close by (Coronation and Queen’s Champion in the Long Beach area). But, which novel?

I just deleted three huge paragraphs of my meanderings as I tried to figure out the answer to that question. I opened a new file and made a list of all my novels, current and future (that I know about, anyway), and what the status of each one was. There are eight (zoinks!), ranging from complete (What Beck’ning Ghost—need to send queries—and Rowan—needs a strong edit and a title) to a couple that are just ideas in my head. At some point soon, I’m going to sit down and map out when I want to finish the in-progress ones and so forth. We shall see…

I haven’t gotten any writing done today. What a goober I am. I have an hour and a half before I leave for Spinners, though. Onwards!

Okay. Dead tired now. Wanted to write more, but brain is slowing down fast. I realised that I didn’t know what was going to happen next in AETW, so I did some brainstorming. It doesn’t feel like enough to finish a full novel, but I always think that, and I’m always wrong.

Spinners went well; some people loved this month’s story, others hated it, but most were right on their comments of things to fix. It’s frustrating being one of the only people turning things in. Since I’ve been back (March was my first meeting), only Amy (once) Susan (twice), Bill (once), and Vera (three times, with the first half of a novel and a short story) have also turned things in. Jim is allegedly working on a novel. Everyone else…who knows? With some folks, I’ve never read what they’ve written. While a good reader can often be a good critiquer, it helps to know how the critiquer writes as well. Some of the group are obvious in what style, what kind of story they like and dislike, and that’s important when weighing their comments. I could go on, but I’m tired and perhaps a bit cranky, and I don’t want to regret anything I say. So, off to bed with me.
