She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Weekend and beyond

AETW: notes

I never did get back to the journal on Saturday, although I did get some work done. Ken was doing a lot of work on the computers so it was easier for me to do work that didn’t directly involve them. I did research on markets to which to send WBG, mostly. I know I did some other organisational work as well.

We also ended up watching three movies: The Muppets Take Manhattan (‘cause the Muppets rule! Also, they’re always good “follow your dreams” movies), Extreme Measures (I don’t know why it was something I’ve wanted to see. It wasn’t spectacular, but wasn’t horrible either), and Casablanca, for which we turned off all the lights, poured glasses of wine, and curled up on the sofa together. Yay for cable—we never had to leave the house to rent DVDs because there was enough on to watch. We also watched a VH-1 special on heavy metal one-hit wonders, which brought up the old question of whether Poison and Vixen are the same band (have you ever seen them on the same stage together, hmmm?) and so forth.

Sunday we got up and headed to the GWW meeting. I drove and Ken played DJ with the iPod, which worked quite well, because we seemed to be in sync about what music to listen to (it’s good to drive a sexy car and bellow along to the two Fire, Inc., songs from the Streets of Fire soundtrack. All of which prompted me to state that Jim Steinman should write all rocks songs. All of them, dammit.). The meeting went fine, and we headed home, stopping at Walmart to get fairy lights for the study and things to float on in the pool. We found neither, but did get a pool scrubbing brick, coloured lights for the pool area, a nails-and-screws box, and three belts (two of the same for a cotehardie belt, and one that will be a great SCA necklace/chain of state).

Came home, did a quick clean and put in the lightbulbs, etc., and then Christianna and Bruce (Lasarfhiona and Wulfric) and three of their kids came over. We played in the pool for a couple of hours, then ordered up a mess of Thai food. (We have enough left over for dinner tomorrow night!) They left at 9:30 or so, and we watched the end of Angel (because I forgot to tape it) and South Park and Trigger Happy TV (yay! It’s been exported!) and went to bed.

Today Ken called in sick, because he’s still feeling pretty ooky. I went to my chiro appt, came home, puttered while he worked on the computers, then took over the computers while he read and napped and so forth. I’ve started making an outline of what’s happened in AETW so far. The main thing I’m getting out of it is a feeling of wow, this book is pretty good! I forgot about a lot of this!, and a strong urge to read the first twelve chapters. I should probably print them and do that before I move on; get myself back into the groove of the book. I’ve also answered a bunch of e-mails today; the In Box is looking normal again and the Drafts folder is below 20 for the first time in awhile. Oh, and I paid bills (Quicken is my friend).

Tonight I’m making scallops in a sweet lime sauce, rice, and steamed asparagus. Why do I feel the need to report this? I guess because I like food, even if I’m forced to cook it. [grumble, bitch and moan]
